Vijayawada: Centre has extended the service of Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma by another six months. Sharma was already on an extension. His term was to end on May 31, 2022. His second extension as chief secretary will now end on November 30, 2022.

On Friday, Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) under Secretary Kuldeep Chaudhary wrote to the state government informing that the Centre had approved the request of the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to extend the service tenure of Sameer Sharma.

A 1985 batch IAS officer, Sameer Sharma was appointed chief secretary on October 10, 2021. He was later given a six months extension from December 1 to May 31, 2022. The AP government wrote a letter to the union government seeking another extension.

Sharma is the fourth chief secretary after YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took over as chief minister.
