Vijayawada: Chief Justice of India N.V Ramana was accorded a warm welcome when he visited his village Ponnavaram in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. This was his first visit to the village after assuming charge as the Chief Justice of India.
He was felicitated at a programme organized in the village. Addressing the gathering, he recalled his childhood and education in Ponnavaram.
Stating that the Telugus do not have a proper identity, Justice Ramana said there is a need to strengthen the Telugu language, culture, and traditions. He said he has a special relationship with Ponnavaram village where he completed his primary education and added that he still remembers the roads, fields, and ponds of the village.
"Bharat Biotech chairman and managing director Dr. Krishna Ella and joint managing director Suchitra Ella whose company developed the Covaxin vaccine during the coronavirus pandemic are Telugus and we should feel proud of that," Justice Ramana said.
A host of dignitaries, including government Chief Whip Samineni Udayabhanu, High Court registrar general Ravindra Babu, registrar Giridhar, law secretary Sunita, DIG Rajasekhar Babu, women's welfare commissioner Kruthika Shukla, accorded the CJI a grand welcome.
