Cold conditions prevail in Andhra parts; Lammasingi shivers at 5 degrees Celsius

Cold conditions prevail in Andhra parts; Lammasingi shivers at 5 degrees Celsius

Visakhapatnam: Lammasingi, known as Kashmir of Andhra, recorded a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, while Chintapalle in Vizag Agency recorded 6.5 degrees Celsius on Monday.

This is the lowest recorded temperature of the winter season. The temperature at Lammasingi (Popular as Andhra Pradesh's Ooty or Kashmir) was recorded at around 5 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Biting cold conditions prevailed over large parts of Vizag Agency as the temperature plummeted to a record low. Lammasingi, Tajangi, and few other areas under Chintapalle Mandal were experiencing extremely cold conditions.

Youth from Vizag and other parts of the region have started arriving in Lammasingi, Tajangi to witness the foggy weather conditions.

Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) at Chintapalle in Vizag Agency has been entrusted to record the temperatures as there is no weather station of India Meteorological Department (IMD). Automatic Weather Station at RARS can record the temperatures at Chintapalle.

Associate Director of Research, RARS, Chintapalle, Dr. G Rama Rao said that Chintapalle shivered at 6.5 degrees Celsius, the lowest so far this season.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature at Chintapalle was around 9.5 degrees Celsius. "Temperature may dip in the coming days and it may touch 4 degrees Celsius," he said.

With tourists in large number pouring in, the roads leading to Lammasingi attracting were witnessing traffic jams

Locals have appealed to the visitors to keep the surroundings clean by not littering the liquor bottles, plastic bags, and glasses, and others.

Lammasingi and Tajangi and Yerravaram waterfalls under Chintapalle Mandal have emerged as the most sought after places for the youngsters during the winter.
