COVID-19: AP logs 12,926 new cases, 6 deaths in 24 hours
Of the six deaths, three were reported in Visakhapatnam, two in Nellore, and one in East Godavari.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 22 Jan 2022 12:36 PM GMTVijayawada: Visakhapatnam continued to report the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh, logging 1,959 new cases on Saturday. Six people died of the virus in the last 24 hours and the state added 12,926 new cases.
Of the six deaths, three were reported in Visakhapatnam, two in Nellore, and one in East Godavari.
Chittoor reported the second-highest cases (1,566) followed by Anantapur (1,379), Guntur (1,212), and Prakasam (1,001).
On Saturday, AP tested 43,763 samples while 3,913 people recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases currently stands at 73,413.
While the state has been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases, hundreds of people are visiting private and government hospitals with complaints of fever, common cold, or cough. Worried about their symptoms, many are immediately getting RT-PCR tests done. However, doctors said that many only have flu during this winter season.
COVID-19 among teachers
A few days after schools re-opened in the state, many teachers and principals are testing positive for COVID-19. In the last two days, five teachers, including the principal of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) High School at Allipuram in Visakhapatnam district tested COVID-positive. The administration immediately shut down the school. A similar situation was seen among teachers in rural and urban areas in the state.
