COVID-19: AP records 12,615 new cases, 4 deaths in 24 hours

Chittoor and Visakhapatnam crossed the 2,000-mark on Thursday and recorded the highest number of cases - 2,338 and 2,117 cases, respectively.

COVID-19: AP records 12,615 new cases, 4 deaths in 24 hours

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh on Thursday recorded a whopping 12,615 COVID-19 cases, a 25.4% increase from Wednesday. Meanwhile, the total positivity rate (TPR) stood at 26.6%. Four people died of the virus in the last 24 hours, of these three were from Visakhapatnam and one each from Chittoor and Nellore.

Chittoor and Visakhapatnam crossed the 2,000-mark on Thursday and recorded the highest number of cases - 2,338 and 2,117 cases, respectively. Guntur recorded 1,066 cases, Vizianagaram 1,039, and Nellore 1,012 cases.

A total of 47,420 samples were tested on Thursday and 3,674 people recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases currently stands at 53,871.

The state has been witnessing a drastic increase in COVID-19 cases in the past few days. On 19 January, the state had recorded 10,057 cases. This was the largest single-day increase this year (43%). On 18 January, the number of cases in the state was 6,996. Eight people had died of COVID-19 on 19 January.
