Vijayawada: Cyclone Michaung triggered heavy rains in parts of the Tirupati, Annamayya, Nellore, and Chittoor districts.

A 4-year-old boy died after his house wall dampened in the incessant rains came down crashing on him. He has been identified as Yashwanth, a resident of Chindepalli ST colony at Yerpesu mandal in Tirupati district

Several parts of the south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema districts received heavy rains on Monday morning. The cyclone has forced authorities to shut down government and private schools in many parts of the coastal and Rayalaseema districts in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

The cyclone storm is likely to cross the south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) between Nellore and Machilipatnam on December 5 afternoon as a severe cyclonic storm. The system could result in heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy rains in most parts of the coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema districts on Monday and Tuesday (December 4 and 5).

Many parts of Chittoor, Tirupati, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, and Konaseema districts will experience heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy rains accompanied by strong winds of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph on Monday.

Most parts of Sri Sathya Sai, Nandyal, Palnadu, NTR, Eluru, East Godavari, and Kakinada districts experience heavy to very heavy rains, and parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh NCAP (Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, ASR and Srikakulam districts) and Kurnool and Anantapur will experience heavy rains on Monday, said Dr S Karuna Sagar, scientist at IMD-Amaravati.

On December 5, most parts of Prakasam, Palnadu, Baptla, Guntur, Krishna, NTR, Eluru, and West Godavari districts will experience heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy rains accompanied by strong winds of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph. Parts of Nellore, YSR Kadapa, Nandyal and Kurnool, Konaseema, East Godavari, and Kakinada districts will experience heavy to very heavy rains and part of NCAP and Annamayya and Tirupati districts will receive heavy rains on Tuesday, S Karuna Sagar added.

The intensity of the rainfall activity will decrease on December 6 and parts of the NCAP may receive moderate to heavy rains.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to take stock of the preparation to handle Cyclone Michaung and assured him of all help. Modi has also directed top officials to ensure that all possible help is extended to the state.

Jagan Mohan Reddy has put all the coastal and Rayalaseema district collectors on alert. He asked the officials to take immediate steps to prevent possible damage to the harvested paddy and a few other crops. The AP government set up control rooms in various districts and relief camps to tackle the cyclone.
