Kurnool: Four members of a family ended their life after failing to repay Rs 70 lakh loan at Maladar Peta in Nandyal Town of Kurnool district late Tuesday night.

The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when relatives and neighbors grew suspicious as none of the family members ventured out of their house from Tuesday night. When they peeped through the window, they found them lying dead.

Inspector of Police, Nandyal Town, Obulesu said forty year old Chandrasekhar, who worked as a goldsmith in a jewelry shop, had borrowed around Rs 70 lakh from friends to construct a house.

Unable to repay these loans, he along with his 32-year-old wife, Kalavathi, 15-year-old daughter Anjani, an SSC student, and 13-year-old Akhila, a class VIII student, ended their life by consuming soft drinks mixed with pesticides.

The bodies were shifted to Nandyal Government hospital for an autopsy. A case has been registered and the investigation has been started.

Relatives and close friends said Chandrasekhar was facing a financial crisis since the COVID-19 lockdown. The family had borrowed huge loans which they were unable to repay.
