Visakhapatnam: Hundreds of Adivasis attacked and ransacked the Chitrakonda police station under Malkangiri district located in the AOB zone.

Several Adivasis sustained injuries in the ensuing scuffle.

Reports said Adivasis from seven panchayats staged a protest at the police station alleging that no development had taken place after the construction of the Gurupriya bridge in the cut-off area. The panchayats include Bodapodara, Navagducha Dorguda, Guntavada, Puppuluru and Kurmanuru.

Later Adivasis attacked the Chitrakonda police station, about 20 km from Sileru (GK Veedhi Mandal of Alluri district) with sickles, axes, and bows and arrows. They damaged the vehicles, furniture, and the building.

Sources said that the Adivasis were enraged because the police recently searched several villages and destroyed stacks of ganja. Several Adivasis were injured in their scuffle. No arrests have been made so far.
