Dokka hails AP governments housing scheme for poor, flays TDP for creating hurdles

Vijayawada: YSRCP MLC Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, on 26 December, hailed the state government's initiative to provide housing to the poor and flayed the TDP for creating hurdles by moving the courts. He said the TDP should withdraw the cases if it has any concern for the poor.

The MLC said that giving away 31 lakh houses is not a welfare activity but an economic activity. The state's GDP will grow by three per cent as the scheme will create direct and indirect employment worth Rs. 20 crores, he said, adding that the housing sector generates a majority of the employment, next only to agriculture. The TDP is intentionally playing spoilsport due to sheer jealousy and any responsible opposition should demand houses for the poor instead of speaking against it, he added.

Mr. Varaprasad said that while the state government wants to provide houses to 54,000 poor families in the Amaravati region, the TDP leaders are approaching the High Court on the grounds that building houses for the poor will create demographic imbalance. The YSRCP leader questioned whether such an objection is a democratic act or yet another cheap political stunt and dared the leaders to withdraw the case immediately and support 54,000 families in Amaravati.

He alleged that the opposition never had any intention to provide housing to the poor families and had abandoned them during their term. Even the Left parties remained silent and refrained from appreciating the welfare activity, Mr. Varaprasad said. He added that all sectors in the country have been facing a slump due to the COVID-19 crisis and it was a great thing that the government has taken up housing projects to create economic activity in the state.
