Dwajasthambham: Miraculous escape for people as pole collapses during restoration work

Guntur: It was a lucky escape for many during the restoration work of dwajasthambham (flagstaff) at Ramalayam in the Guntur district.

The incident occurred at Panditivari Palam village in Guntur district when dwajasthambham suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, people escaped unhurt.

A video has gone viral showing the dwajasthambham being restored with the help of two cranes when the pole broke down.

According to locals, a 44-feet-dwajasthambham weighing 40 tonnes was erected in front of the ancient Ramalayam temple in 1963. It was made from a monolith found in the hills of Guthikonda Billam.

The temple decided to take up restoration work and the authorities decided to move the dwajasthambham a little away from its current position. The engineers were brought from Vijayawada. When two heavy cranes tried to move the dwajasthambham, the top part of the pole collapsed.
