East Godavari: Drug syndicate busted, 1000 kilo Ganja recovered, four arrested

Police have busted a major drug syndicate and seized 1,000 kilograms of Ganja from a bore well rig lorry in East Godavari district.

East Godavari: Police have busted a major drug syndicate and seized 1,000 kilograms of Ganja from a bore well rig lorry in East Godavari district.

Four smugglers were arrested and two others escaped from the spot.

Police said smugglers had concealed drugs in the bore well rig lorry to avoid detection. Smugglers also avoided highways and took rural beach road to smuggle Ganja worth Rs two crore.

Superintendent of police M. Ravindranath Babu said Peddapuram sub-divisional officer Aritakula Srinivasarao and the district special Branch DSP M. Ambika Prasad supervised the entire operation.

Babu said the bore well rig lorry was intercepted near Addaripet village on Saturday night. During a search, police found Ganja concealed in the Generator box.

He said along with the lorry, a motorcycle used for escorting the vehicle was seized. Four smugglers were arrested and Rs.30,000 cash was also seized from them.

They have been identified as Ambati Raju (46), Vipparti Samuel (37), and Gautam Rajkumar (27), all hailing from Kothapet Mandal in East Godavari district, while Immandi Veera Venkata Ramesh (37) hails from Tanuku in West Godavari district.

Two others, Immandi Madhu and Immandi Satyanarayana Murthy, gave a slip to the police and fled under cover of darkness and search is on for them.

The accused had confessed that they purchased the Ganja in the Visakhapatnam agency area and were transporting it to Hyderabad, he added.

The SP has complimented the police team led by Tuni rural circle inspector K.Kishore Babu, Thondangi sub-inspector M Mohankumar. He said police officers would be duly rewarded.
