Education stress: IIIT RGUKT-Srikakulam student dies by suicide
Speaking to News Meter, the police said that they found a suicide note written by the student in the hostel room.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 7 Sep 2022 12:10 PM GMTSrikakulam: A IIIT student of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) died by suicide hanging herself in the hostel room in Etcherla, Srikakulam district.
The student is a native of Saluru mandal, Vizianagaram district.
According to the Etcherla Sub Inspector Satyanarayana, the girl hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room. Her roommates who saw her fighting for life immediately alerted the management and shifted her to the hospital. However, the student died while being treated in the hospital.
Speaking to News Meter, the police said that they found a suicide note written by the student in the hostel room. She wrote a letter addressing her parents that she is undergoing educational stress and is unable to reach the expected targets in her academics. She allegedly felt sorry for her poor performance.
When asked about similar incidents of student suicides in IIITs, the police said that the students seem to be undergoing psychological stress, in coping with their academics, and are taking such a decision.

It was In February, a 16-year-old student from the same campus died by suicide in her hostel room, after allegedly being forced by her parents to attend offline classes. A similar incident of a PUC first-year student of Koduru died by suicide at Nuzvid IIIT two weeks ago. The IIIT Nuzivid saw around 20 student suicides in the last few years. The majority of the deaths are attributed to issues in their family and depression over coping in their academics.
