Fun trip ends in tragedy; eight youth drown in two incidents across Andhra
Eight youngsters drowned in two different incidents in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 28 Jun 2021 5:07 AM GMTVijayawada: Eight youngsters drowned in two different incidents in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. Six bodies have been fished out so far and the search is on to retrieve two more.
In the first incident, a birthday celebration ended in a tragedy when four friends, who had gone for a swim, drowned at Pukkalapalem beach under Kaviti Mandal in Srikakulam district
Around 20 youngsters from Borraputtu village went to the beach to celebrate the birthday of Sai Lokesh. They also played beach cricket before taking a dip in the sea.
Four youth were caught in a strong current which took them deep inside the sea.
The deceased were identified as Sai Lokesh (20) and his friends Manoj Kumar, Tirumala, and Gopichand. Police said they have retrieved three bodies from the waters and the search operations are on to trace the body of Gopichand.
Police have appealed to the youngsters not to venture into the beaches.
A case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPC and the three bodies were shifted to the government hospital for post mortem.
In another incident, four students were washed away in Vasista branch of river Godavari at Lankala Gannavaram under P Gannavaram Mandal in East Godavari district. All the boys might have ventured into the river for bathing in the evening.
As the youngsters didn't return to their homes, parents of the youngsters launched a search and found their clothes and cycles near riverbank .
The deceased were identified as Bandaru Naveen Kumar, Yerramsetty Ratnasagar, Panthala Pavan, and Khandavalli Vinay. The police retrieved three bodies so far. The search is going on for the body of Khandavalli Vinay.
