Forces destroy 10 booby traps in Maoist-infested Mallampeta forest

Kakinada: Security forces defused at least ten booby traps in the Mallampeta forest on the Andhra Pradesh Chhattisgarh border in Chittoor Agency.

Police said during a joint operation in the interior agency area, the anti-Naxal squad along with CRPF detected booby traps laid by Maoists.

Considered as 'death traps', Maoists use them to inflict casualties on the security forces.

Superintendent of police M Ravindranath Babu said security forces led by Chintur ASP G Srikrishna Kanth, circle Inspectors of Chintur and Yetapaka destroyed the booby traps on the spot.

He said so far the security forces are concentrating on detection and defusing land mines. "In view of the detection of these booby traps, the security forces are taking extra precautions. We have evolved new strategies to safeguard ourselves," he said.
