Amaravati: APSRTC shattered all previous records by earning Rs 23 crore in a single day on January 18.
Sankranthi is the season when the RTC records the highest earnings. However, the record earnings achieved this year is unique because only normal fares were charged. Previously, 50% additional fares were charged during the festive season. This Sankranthi, RTC earned revenue of Rs 141 crore as against Rs 107 crore last year.
On the Cargo front, RTC got a single-day highest earning of Rs 55 lakh during Sankranthi. The average revenue of RTC is Rs 45 lakh per day.
"It is a remarkable achievement. Record earnings were possible because of effective utilization of resources to the maximum extent with planning and close monitoring", said APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.
He said that a record number of 3,392 special buses operated from January 6- 14, while last year, 2,400 special buses plied during the festive season. APSRTC operated 1,483 buses from Hyderabad alone as against 824 buses last year.
While the private tour operators sold tickets at higher prices, the APSRTC offered a 10% discount if the return ticket was also booked in advance.
