Vizianagaram: Police examined footage of over 50 CCTV cameras between Vizianagaram and Hyderabad to solve two theft cases that took place in a scrap shop in Vizianagaram Town in October 2020 and February 2021.

Police arrested two persons after months of investigation into the case.

DSP, Vizianagaram, P Anil said some unidentified persons stole scrap (Copper and Brass) worth Rs 3.25 lakh from a scrap shop owned by one Abdul Rafie under One-Town police station limits in the Vizianagaram city twice.

Since both the cases were similar in nature, the police began examining the CCTV footage at a few locations and finally got a clue. They identified one Tata-Ace vehicle that took off from the scrap shop.

Later police have examined more than 50 CCTV footages in between Vizianagaram and Eluru of West Godavari to identify the vehicle and observed that it passed through Nakkapalle check-post on February 5. The investigation revealed that the vehicle had crossed into Hyderabad.

When the police team zeroed in on the owner, they found he had leased the vehicle to others. Police apprehended Pustopendra Singh, a native of Madhya Pradesh, who used to work in a scrap shop in Hyderabad. He used to dismantle the old buses and sell the scrap to Abdul Rafie in Vizianagaram. Singh, who could speak Hindi, befriended one Goka Rambabu, who earlier worked in Rafie's scrap shop and hatched the plan.

Rambabu and Singh stole the scrap and sold it in Hyderabad. Police nabbed both of them and recovered 150 kgs of copper, 50 kgs of brass, the vehicle and Rs one lakh cash.
