Nellore: Hitting out at actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan over Divis laboratories row, Minister for Industries Mekapati Gautam Reddy said the YSRCP government has reserved 75 percent of jobs for local youth in Andhra Pradesh.

He clarified that job opportunities for locals have increased in the YSRCP government. He said the government has reserved 75 % of jobs for locals. He said that first preference will be given to those families who have given land for industries in the respective villages.

"Second preference will be for the locals living in that Mandal. The third preference will be for those belonging to the same district. The state government is also providing skills development courses to the local youth for employment opportunities. Pawan Kalyan has been speaking without any knowledge or basic understanding. He has been provoking the youth in the wrong direction," he said.

The minister said the previous government had given permission for Divis laboratories in 2015 and Pawan Kalyan was associated with TDP during that period. He questioned why did not Pawan Kalyan raise this issue during the TDP government.

"The state government had clearly directed the management of Divis, not to proceed further without resolving the local's issues. The government constituted a committee with experts from both industries and fisheries department," he said.

Minister Mekapti Gautam Reddy said that Pawan should write to Nimmagadda Ramesh to stop the elections if he is really sincere about the lives of the people. "Local body polls will interrupt Covid vaccination rollout. It poses a risk to the public," he said.
