Guntur: An inter-caste love affair ended in a tragedy after a girl's father allegedly hacked 22-year-old youth to death at Koppuravuru in Pedakakani Mandal of Guntur district on Wednesday.
Identified as Venkatesh, a native of Koppuravuru village, his hands and legs were dismembered by the girl's father and five others before stabbing him to death.
Police said Venkatesh fell in love with a girl, who was a second-year-intermediate student, and decided to marry her in a couple of months.
When the girl's parents came to know about the affair, they summoned local village Panchayat and blamed Venkatesh. As per the instructions of elders, Venkatesh was banished from the village. However, he continued to talk to the girl over the phone.
Apparently angry with Venkatesh's attitude, the girl's father Bhaskar Rao decided to eliminate him. On Tuesday night, he invited Venkatesh to an isolated place at Koppuravuru village to discuss the matter.
Bhaskar Rao along with five others stabbed Venkatesh several times and severed his hands and legs.
Police team led by Inspector Shobhan Babu rushed to the spot and shifted the severely injured Venkatesh to a nearby hospital at Guntur where he lost his final breath.
The accused later surrendered before the police. The parents, relatives, and friends of Venkatesh demanded capital punishment to the accused for killing the youngster.
Police said that the boy and girl belonged to different castes.
