Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Police has launched an aggressive statewide crackdown on online betting and gambling during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), warning of strict and uncompromising action against violators.

Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta chaired a high-level review with district Superintendents of Police, directing them to enforce a zero-tolerance policy and intensify action against illegal betting networks.

Gambling dens and betting syndicates targeted

Police units across the state have stepped up enforcement, targeting gambling dens, betting syndicates, and facilitators.

Authorities made it clear that any clubs, establishments or premises involved in betting will be shut down immediately.

Raids are being conducted without exception, and surveillance has been tightened on suspicious activities.

Online betting websites and apps under scanner

Officials are actively tracking online betting websites and mobile applications. Steps are being taken to block and dismantle such platforms in coordination with Central agencies.

Social media platforms are also under constant watch to prevent the promotion of betting activities.

Betting is to be treated as organised crime

The police have decided to treat betting-related offences as organised crime, with cases being registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Bank accounts linked to betting transactions are being identified and frozen. Bookies, agents and those aiding such activities will face stringent legal consequences.

Repeat offenders face tough measures

Strict action has been ordered against repeat offenders, including preventive detention. Properties linked to illegal betting operations will also be identified and attached as per the law.

Special IPL enforcement drives

Special drives are being carried out during the IPL season, with checks at lodges, hotels and public places. Police are gathering intelligence at the village and ward levels, while dedicated teams are working to dismantle betting networks.

All cases registered will be closely monitored to ensure proper investigation and strong prosecution.

Public advisory and awareness push

The Andhra Pradesh Police has urged citizens to stay away from betting and gambling in any form and report such activities to the nearest police station.

Awareness campaigns are being conducted, especially targeting youth, to highlight the risks and legal consequences of engaging in betting.

The police reiterated that strict and decisive action will continue across the state, sending a clear message: betting in any form will not be tolerated.
