Jagan government has no role in VSP privatization: YSRCP

Vijayawada: Dismissing allegations of Opposition over privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), YSRCP said the state government has no role as the company is governed by the Centre.

Party spokesman Ambati Rambabu said Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has made his stand clear in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The allegations that the State is selling VSP to Korean Company POSCO holds no ground as it is the Centre that governs the Steel Plant, he said.

Ambati Rambabu affirmed that the state government's meeting with POSCO is not regarding the steel plant, but for exploring investment options.

"The steel plant is a central government organization and there is no possibility for the state government to sell it to a private company," he said.

He said that the union government has taken a decision to privatize the steel plant in 2018 when Chandrababu Naidu was Chief Minister. He stated that the steel plant was in a profitable condition until 2015, but all of a sudden, it ran into a pile of losses during the TDP rule.

The MLA has slammed Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan for finding the fault with the letter written by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to the Central government urging to reconsider the decision of disinvestment in Vizag Steel Plant.

He asked Pawan Kalyan whether he has taken up the disinvestment of steel plant issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his meeting with him or is it for securing a ticket in Tirupati by-election.

He said that Pawan Kalyan has a responsibility to convince the union government to hold back the privatization as he is in alliance with BJP.

Ambati Rambabu said that the Chief Minister even wrote a letter to the Prime Minister requesting him to reconsider the decision and suggested measures to reduce the losses of the steel plant.

He asked why Chandrababu remained silent when the Union Government was considering disinvesting Visakha Steel Plant.

On local body polls, he said that YSRCP will win over 90 percent of seats and TDP will be confined to less than 10 percent. The good governance by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been well received by the people. He criticized Chandrababu Naidu for misleading and confusing people with false information.
