Amaravati: Minister for Agriculture Kurasala Kannababu said the state government has borrowed money to provide relief to the public during Covid-19.

Speaking to media here on Tuesday, he said the government gave priority to welfare over development and pumped money to revive the state economy and stand by the weaker sections during the pandemic crisis.

The Minister asserted that the state government did not hold back any welfare schemes despite a decline in state revenue. "Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy clearly wanted the government to stand by the people in tough times. The government spent Rs 1, 30,000 crore through various schemes on the public welfare in the last two years," he said.

The Minister said Chandrababu Naidu had pushed the state into a debt trap. He said TDP leaders have misused over Rs 68,000 crore in the name of capital expenditure. He slammed TDP leaders Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Nara Lokesh for their false propaganda against the government.

He said the entire propaganda is to divert people's attention. He said the state has witnessed how the previous government managed the finances in their five-year term. He challenged them to reveal on what welfare schemes they have spent Rs 1,50,000 crore.

He said all the borrowings are for public welfare. He said that the previous government had betrayed the public with fake promises and proliferated corruption in every village through the Janmabhoomi Committees.

Minister flayed Chandrababu Naidu for abandoning the state during the Covid crisis and staying in the neighboring state. He said Naidu is misleading people through zoom meetings.
