Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy directed officials to take necessary measures to control the effects of cyclone Nivar during a review meeting here on 26 November.

During the meeting held at the camp office here on Thursday, the Chief Minister ordered the officials to extend support to the family of a person who was electrocuted to death in Nellore district. He also asked officials to prepare a report on crop damage after the rains and asked them to be ready to provide immediate relief.

The officials briefed the Chief Minister about the impact of the cyclone and heavy rains. Erpedu, Srikalahasti, and Satyavedu in Chittoor district and the entire Nellore district witnessed heavy rainfall while rains battered some parts of YSR Kadapa and Anantapur districts, the officials told Jagan. Nellore received an average rainfall of 7 cm, they said.

The officials said there would be inflow into Penna river, adding that the Somasila project is full and water would be released depending upon the inflow. Some areas have reported crop damages and programmes to asses the damage will be carried out as soon as the rains stop, they said. Steps are being taken to rescue those trapped near the Mallemadugu reservoir in Renigunta, they added.
