Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the construction of 50,793 houses at Krishnayapalem village in the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) limits. This was part of the state government’s plan to build 45 social infrastructure projects for Rs 1,829.57 crore.

The construction of the houses in these layouts would cost around Rs 1,371.41 crore and Rs 384.42 crore would be spent on infrastructure facilities in the R5 Zone of Amaravati.

The 45 infrastructure projects include 11 Anganwadi centres, 11 schools, 11 digital libraries, and 12 hospitals. The government would take up the development of 25 layouts in 1,402.58 acres in the CRDA region under the Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu programme. The house sites, with a market value ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, had already been distributed free of cost to 50,793 women.

Mentioning the tag Amaravti for All, Jagan said, “The opposition proclaimed Amaravati to be the capital region, but in reality, they have been fighting against the poor by knocking on the doors of the courts to prevent the construction of houses in the aforementioned capital. In court, they contended that providing housing to the poor would cause a ‘demographic imbalance’, which would harm the balance between castes.”

“TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu and co had filed 18 cases in the High Court and five cases were brought before the Supreme Court. The state government fought all the cases and four years later received permission to build the houses,” he added.
