Kurnool: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday laid the foundation for an upcoming National Law University at Jagannathagattu of Kalluru mandal in Kurnool district. CM Jagan unveiled the pylon and launched the construction work at the event.

To be constructed for Rs 1,011 crores in 150 acres, the chief minister said that the law varsity will ‘become a beacon of legal education par excellence in this part (Rayalaseema) of Andhra Pradesh.’

Recalling the government’s promise, Jagan said that along with establishing a High Court in Kurnool, as promised earlier, a SHRC (State Human Rights Commission) and Lok Ayukta would also be set up here as per the State’s commitment to decentralised development.

He further said that the AP Legal Metrological Commission, Labour Commission, VAT Appellate Commission, Wakf Board and other institutions dealing with legal matters would also be set up here and they would help the people of the region seek justice.

Pointing out that the proposal to set up a High Court here is as per the Sribagh Pact made at the time of shifting capital to Hyderabad, he said that steps are being taken to adhere to the pact.
