Jagan reviews CLAP; asks officials to prioritize cleanliness in villages, towns

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday directed officials to prioritize cleanliness in villages, towns, and cities and to adopt the best practices in disposal of wastes that are harmful to the environment and the people.

During a review meeting on Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) held at the camp office here, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to ensure that vehicles allotted to grade 2, 3 nagar panchayats reach the respective cities, towns, nagar panchayats, and panchayats. Get electric vehicles soon after discussions with relevant company representatives, Jagan told them.

He asked the officials to take appropriate measures to prevent any trouble from garbage transfer stations to nearby houses in towns and cities. He instructed them to take measures to remove garbage regularly and ensure no foul smell in the surroundings.

The officials meanwhile informed the Chief Minister that the power plant which will generate electricity from waste in Guntur is ready. Jagan asked them to focus on setting up these plants in the proposed areas.

Jagan also directed the officials to focus on maintenance of toilets and ensure they are clean. He further asked them to provide dustbins to those who do not have them in the villages. Conduct tests on water and air pollution through village clinics, get reports on village sanitation, and take necessary measures, he added.

The officials were told to clean drinking water tanks regularly and focus on measures to prevent the spread of diseases, set up sewage treatment plants at required locations, and ensure sewage water is not stored at residential locations. Appoint efficient officers in the command control room overseeing the implementation of CLAP programmes and ensure they respond to the complaints regularly and take appropriate measures, Jagan instructed the officials.
