Jagan to inaugurate 10 special development projects in Vizag
Six Visakhapatnam Metro Region Development Authority (VMRDA) projects and four Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) projects will be inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on December 17.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit Visakhapatnam International Airport at 5 pm on Friday. On his way to the city, he will first inaugurate NAD flyover, followed by a few more projects of VMRDA including Commerical Complex at Pithapuram colony, two laning of BT road, development of 80 feet master plan road, development of 60 feet road, construction of Kalyanamandapam at Pendurthy and construction of community hall at Thatchetlapelm.
CM will also inaugurate the redeveloped VUDA Park, Multi-Level Car Parking Project (MLCP), renovated Old Townhall, and upgradation of 30 GVMC schools under the smart city project of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.
Later, the Chief Minister will attend the marriage function of the daughter of Vizianagaram DCCB Chairman Neekala Naidu Babu at AU Convention Centre, beach road. The Chief Minister at around 7 pm will attend the marriage reception of the granddaughter of Hon'ble Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu at Vizag Conventions, PM Palem.
VMRDA new projects
NAD flyover:
One of the busiest roads of the city is NAD (Naval Armament Depot) junction flyover, which was designed as a 'Rotary mode flyover' to ensure hassle-free travel from four directions of the junction-NSTL, Marripalem, Airport, and Gopalapatnam. The project which was constructed with a budget of Rs 150 crore started in 2018 and was completed recently. The flyover has a green landscape and a fountain at the center of the flyover. The major three components of the flyover are it has elevated rotary for heavy vehicles, lower rotary for light transport vehicles, and middle rotary for pedestrians foot over bridge. Works for Railway Over Bridge (ROB) for light transport vehicles is in progress and is likely to be completed by July 2022.
Commercial Complex:
A new commercial complex is coming up at Pithpuram colony, adjacent to Old NH-5 at Maddilapalem area. The project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 7.60 crore in 1133 square yards with G-3 floors.
Widening of single-lane BT road:
Single lane BT road will be widened to two lanes from Anandapuram junction to Boni village at a cost of Rs 7.55 crore. The 9 km stretch will have road connectivity from Anandapuram flower market junction to Podugupalem, Chandaka, Gottupalli, Engulapale villages, GVMC-Boni headwater, and Pandrangi junction. The road will be widened from an old road carriageway of 3.50 meters to a width of 7.50 meters. There will be an avenue plantation on both sides of the road.
Development of 80 feet:
As per the master plan, an 80 feet road will be developed in Vizag, connecting Law college road to Beach Road via Peda Rushikonda at a cost of Rs 7.50 crore. The road will have connectivity to IT SEZ from NH-16 to Yendada. With a road width of 7.50 meters, there will be a four-lane road with a central median and lightning.
Development of 60 feet:
As per the master plan, a 60 feet road will be connecting NH-16 at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park to Beach Raod via Visakha Valley school at a project cost of Rs 6.97 crore. With a road width of 5.50 meters, there will be a double carriageway with a central median, avenue plantation on both sides. Major components of this project include road development at Rs. 593 lakh, construction of rooms for food crafts institute with Rs 42 lakh and construction of a dormitory for Juvenile Home with a budget of Rs 62 lakh.
Kalyanamandapam:
A new Kalyanamandapam will be constructed at Chinamushiwada VUDA layout, Pendurthi constituency in the city. This will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 5.14 crore in 1.2 acres of land. With the G+2 floor, the ground floor will accommodate 476 members and the first floor can accommodate 644 members. A car parking area can accommodate 38 cars and 100 two-wheelers.
Community hall:
A new community hall will be constructed at Dharma Nagar in the Thatchetlapalem area of the city, at a cost of Rs 1.56 crore. The community hall will have a G+2 floor in 385 Sq.Yds
GVMC projects:
Renovated VUDA Park:
The renovated VUDA Park at Beach Road has taken a completely new look with new facilities and attractions added under the smart city project. Though the park is under the supervision of Visakhapatnam VMRDA, the GVMC authorities are taking up the development project at a cost of Rs 33 crore. The VUDA park in 33 acres area will have recreational facilities for all age groups. Some of the new things include a walking zone, cycling track, yoga space, outdoor gym area, game courts for badminton, tennis, basketball, and skating. Exclusively for children, VUDA park has a children's play arena with various play equipment. The park is also well known for having a lake boating facility.
Mechanized parking facility:
The first Multi-Level Car Parking Project (MLCP) will be coming up at Jagadamba Junction constructed with a budget of Rs.10 crores. MLCP can provide parking facilities to 150 vehicles through the six-level structures in the automatic and mechanized system. Jagadamba Junction, which is one of the prime locations of the city always lacks proper parking facilities for those visiting hospitals and shopping malls surrounded by the area. This also has a provision for vehicles of disabled persons. MLCP will have an app to identify vacated parking lots and a sensor at the entrances to ensure the right positioning.
Renovated Old town hall:
The 120-year-old Town Hall has finally got a new look after decades of it being neglected. One of the city's iconic heritage structures has been renovated at a cost of Rs 10 crore. With a vehicle-free zone, Town Hall will be turned into a museum that reflects the colonial history of Visakhapatnam. The history of the Town Hall building dates back to the early 1990s. It was built by the Raja of Bobbili. The hall is known for hosting meetings during India's struggle for independence, which were attended by Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Sir CV Raman, and Dr. S Radhakrishnan.
GVMC schools:
A total of 30 GVMC schools have been upgraded under the smart city project at a cost of Rs30 crore into smart campuses. The renovated schools will have digital classrooms, science labs, outdoor spacing for outdoor activities, eco-friendly environment. Students will be provided access to multimedia and animation tutorials.
Old Municipal Office building:
One of the Heritage structures, the old municipal office building has been renovated with a project cost of Rs. 7.16 crore. It is located at Beach Road near Fishing Harbour. Constructed in the late 1930s, it is a relatively modern structure with a curious mix of both, modern and colonial styles of architecture with the European architecture and the flat cantilever occupying equal space. As a part of the renovation, the dilapidated portions were demolished and re-constructed with stone, refurbished with required and elegant woodwork.
