Amaravati: Ahead of the Karnataka election, Andhra Pradesh police and Special Enforcement Bureau have decided to keep a vigil on checkpoints on the border with a neighboring state to prevent the smuggling of liquor and cash.
Andhra Pradesh DGP Rajendranath Reddy has ordered to set up 47 police stations, 19 sub-stations, and 57 checkpoints along the Karnataka border in Kurnool, Anantapur, Sri Sathyasai, Chittoor, and Annamaya districts.
The directives were imposed to curb illegal liquor and smuggling of cash. According to SEB, these checkpoints are connecting Chitradurga, Bellary, Raichur, Chandur, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and KGF of Karnataka.
Special Enforcement Bureau data reveals that from March 29 to May 5, illegal currency and other unaccounted items worth Rs. 12,75,08,324 were seized.
A total of 42 cases of illegal liquor smuggling cases were registered. In addition, 273 cases were registered for tax evasion. Around 4935 kilograms of Ganjawere was also seized.
In addition, 840 persons who were part of the rioting during the last elections were also rounded up. It has also been stated that Section 111 NBW has been imposed, and 824 licensed guns have been deposited. In addition, 89 cordon and search operations were carried out.
