East Godavari: A couple from Nidadavolu town in East Godavari district is winning hearts after they pledged to donate their organs on the eve of their wedding.
Satish Kumar and Sajeeva Rani have decided to sign forms on the day of their wedding scheduled on December 29. They even asked their family and friends to come forward for organ donation.
The message has been received well and 60 members have already come forward to sign papers for organ donation.
The couple also printed an organ donation message on the wedding invitation card,
"Donate your Organ, Save a Life," read the message on the card in Telugu language.
Chairperson of Savitribai Phule Educational & Charitable Trust, Visakhapatnam G Seetha Mahalakshmi, has been invited to their wedding. She will be receiving the organ donation papers on their wedding day.
Speaking to News Meter, Satish said, "When I was a 12-year-old, I came across a person who died due to organ failure. I overheard people saying someone could have donated an organ. But I did not understand what it was and how it can be done", said Satish, who works as an Instructor at Ravindra ITI College, Nidadavolu.
Since then, he decided to donate his organs.
It was Nikhil of the `Willing to Help' foundation who gave the idea to Satish to donate his organs. "There is no proper organ donation awareness, and I wanted to spread the word through an initiative taken on my wedding. So far, 60 members have come forward. And I expect more people to sign on organ donation papers on my wedding day", said Satish.
