Vizianagaram: Two minor girls were allegedly raped by a man posing as a police officer in Vizianagaram district.
The incident took place on Saturday (1 January) but came to light on Sunday after the victims, with the support of their teachers and warden, approached the Kurupam police station limits in the district.
The police said the two girls – both intermediate first-year students at a government residential college – had gone to Ravada village under Jiyyammavalasa in the district along with some friends to celebrate the new year. While they were returning, Velagada Rambabu (32), posing as a policeman, threatened the two girls and took them on his motorbike to an oil palm orchard. He raped them and also filmed the heinous act. He threatened the girls with dire consequences and said he would upload the video on social media.
Upon reaching the hostel, the victims narrated the entire episode to their teachers and warden.
Based on the complaint from the victims, the police registered a case and formed a special team to nab the accused. The locals said Rambabu was earlier involved in some crimes.
The victims were sent to the hospital for medical tests.
