`I am stunned: `AP Weatherman Sai Praneeth after earning PM Modis praise

Tirupati: A 24-year-old techie of Andhra Pradesh has become an instant celebrity after Prime Minister Narendra Modi complimented him for updating farmers with real-time weather forecasts through social media.

During his Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, PM Modi appreciated B Sai Praneeth for helping farmers in Andhra Pradesh by sharing accurate weather data through social media platforms.

Hailing from Tirupati city of Chittoor district, B Sai Praneeth has been working as a software engineer with a reputed firm in Bengaluru.

B Sai Praneeth said he was completely stunned when Prime Minister complimented him for reaching out to the farmers with accurate weather reports.

He said that farmers are the real heroes in society as they have been feeding people in spite of their struggles and hardships.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Sai Praneeth has been working from home. He conceptualized the `AP Weatherman' initiative in August 2020 after he was upset over the contradictory weather forecasts by vernacular media.

Sai Praneeth's work was appreciated and recorded in the UN Habitat journal which was published in June 2021.

Modi introduced Sai Praneeth as a software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, who has creatively put technology to use to help many farmers across Andhra Pradesh whose livelihoods have been affected due to a lack of real-time weather updates.

Sai Praneeth, through his social media presence, has helped several rural and urban people as well.

Farmers have been yearning for authentic and accurate weather forecasts which are key to their operations. Though there are several websites that provide weather forecasts on daily basis, it is difficult to comprehend the data given the technicalities.

"Taking all these factors into account, I decided to launch the AP weatherman initiative to prevent the loss of livelihoods of the farmers due to climate change", Sai Praneeth said.

Praneeth uses automated data to gather relevant weather information from various websites. He posts daily and weekly weather updates and forecasts on his social media handles including YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
