Maoist leader killed, another injured in encounter on Andhra-Odisha border
By Newsmeter Network Published on 27 Nov 2020 3:58 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: A Maoist leader was killed and another injured in an encounter with security forces in the forest area of Malkangiri district along the Andhra-Odisha border on Thursday.
Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Khilari said acting on a tip-off, BSF launched a combing operation at Jantri forest in Swabhiman Anchal, a remote part of the Malkangiri district on Thursday.
When the security personnel was closing in, Maoists opened indiscriminate fire. Forces immediately retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, one of the rebels was killed on the spot. Another Maoist cadre suffered injuries, while the rest managed to escape.
The deceased Maoist has been identified as Kishore, who was involved in a series of criminal activities in Odisha and along AOB. Suspecting the presence of few more Maoists top leaders, police have intensified combing operations in the area to flush out left-wing extremists from Swabhiman Anchal.
"There was an exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists today in Swabhiman Anchal. The body of a Maoist with an AK 47 has been recovered and one injured Maoist is being evacuated. Security force personnel are safe. Well done security forces," tweeted Odisha DGP Abhay.
