The phones recovered had been registered by their respective owners on the Mobile Hunt app, introduced by the Tirupati police to help track lost mobile phones.
Till now, Tirupati cybercrime police have recovered a total of 1,630 mobile phones worth around Rs 2,93,40,000 (almost Rs 3 crores) since the appās launch in February 2023. The majority of the mobiles lost were recovered from Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
On Tuesday, additional SP admin Venkat Rao held a meeting to give details of the recovered mobile phones. He said that most of the mobiles recovered belonged to pilgrims from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, Telangana and Karnataka.

What is Mobile Hunt app?
Mobile Hunt application is used to track lost mobile phones by sending a message to a WhatsApp number.
When you lose a mobile, you can send a message Hi or HELP on WhatsApp to Mobile Hunt web application number 9490617873 and receive a Google application link from the Tirupati district police.
The link will direct you to an application form where you can fill in the details of your lost mobile and submit a complaint. You can also file a complaint in the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal. The information in the cell phone will be blocked and the police will also get a complaint.
Once the complaint is registered, the cybercrime team will track the lost mobile and recover it. The app is not just for the residents of Tirupati district but also for pilgrims coming from other states.
Similarly in Anakapall, 235 mobiles worth Rs 43 lakhs were recovered in phase 4 are handed over to the victims. So far, in 4 phases Rs 1.11 cr worth 692 phones were recovered.
