Visakhapatnam decked up for G20 summit

Visakhapatnam: After the huge success of the Global Investors Summit 2023, Visakhapatnam city is now gearing up for the G20 summit on March 28-29.

The theme of the second Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting, which is a part of the G20 Summit, is 'Financing Cities of Tomorrow- Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable.'

The first G20 meeting was conducted in January in Pune, and the second will be in Visakhapatnam.

Ahead of the summit, a kite festival and boat riding competitions were held at RK beach. National Seminars and workshops were held in the Radisson Hotel. Yoga sessions and marathons are lined up in Visakhapatnam.


Beautification works:

Great Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), VMRDA, and the district officials have taken up city beautification works for Rs 100 crore.

The city is getting a new look with murals, new roads, median, plantation, footpath development of new beach stretch, and beach cleaning.

'I love Vizag' graffiti has been put up at Sneha Konda beach.


All tourist places, including Buddhist sites at Thotlakonda and Appikonda, Kailasagiri hilltop park, are being given a facelift.


200 delegates to visit:

According to the GVMC commissioner P Raja Babu, the summit will be attended by around 200 delegates from 40 countries. The delegates will be taken around the tourist places and shown local art and culture. "Most delegates will be in Visakhapatnam from March 27-31 for four days. Senior IAS officers across the globe will be in Visakhapatnam. We have made all arrangements for their accommodation," said GVMC Commissioner.

Tight security:

Three-layer security is being taken up by the City police commissioner Ch Srikanth. Tight security arrangements would be in place for the G20 summit, and the police have banned drone flying for three days from March 28. Also, during the G20 summit, the public will not be allowed into tourist places where the delegates will visit for three days.
