Nellore boat tragedy: Six feared dead, four swim to safety

Nellore: Six people drowned, while four swam to safety after a boat capsized in a pond at Toderu of Podalakuru mandal in Nellore district on Sunday evening.

Ten people were on board when the boat capsized. On Monday evening, rescue teams fished out all the bodies. Officials conducted post-mortem, and handed over the mortal remains to the family members.

According to Podakaluru CI Saghameswar Rao, all the youth are native of Shanti Nagar hamlet near Toderu. They were on a joy ride when the incident occurred. They used a boat that is meant for feeding the fish in the pond. Due to overload, the boat capsized. While few managed to swim to safety, others drowned.

Since the boat was made of iron, it sunk into the pond. Rescue teams rushed to the spot. They brought boats from nearby areas for a search operation.
