‘New Green Revolution’: Lokesh lays stone for Rs 22,000 crore ReNew clean energy project in Anantapur

Anantapur: “The foundation stone laid today for ReNew Power’s Integrated Clean Energy Project is not just the beginning of a major investment—it is the cornerstone of India’s clean energy revolution,” said Nara Lokesh, minister for Education, IT, and Electronics.

At a landmark event held in Bethapalli village, Guntakal constituency, minister Lokesh officially laid the foundation for ReNew Power’s Rs 22,000 crore Integrated Energy Project.

Environmental responsibility and economic empowerment

On the occasion, he said the project is not merely an industrial initiative—it is a bold step toward energy independence, environmental responsibility and economic empowerment. “With this massive investment, we are not only powering grids but also fuelling the aspirations of our youth and illuminating the path to a sustainable future,” he said.

He added, “When we have access to sunlight and clean air right here on Earth, why look elsewhere for the energy of tomorrow? Today, we are making that future a reality—not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.”

Aiming for blueprint for India’s new Green Revolution

Each megawatt generated from this site will send a strong message to the world—that Andhra Pradesh is leading India’s green transformation, said minister Lokesh and extended his heartfelt thanks to ReNew chairman and CEO Sumant Sinha and the company’s leadership for their confidence in the State.

“This is not just an investment. It is a vote of confidence in our vision, leadership and execution capabilities. ReNew’s return to Andhra Pradesh, after six years, marks the beginning of a new chapter in sustainable growth. Behind this transformation is a visionary leader who doesn’t just think about tomorrow—he plans for the decades to come,” Lokesh said.

The Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy launched in October 2024 is now being seen as a model for the rest of the country—a blueprint for India’s green future.

Targeting 72 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029

After a five-year hiatus, Andhra Pradesh is undergoing a powerful transformation in renewable energy. This isn’t just about regaining lost ground—we are drawing a new map for the future, said Lokesh.

In 2024, the State set an ambitious target to achieve 72 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029.

Lokesh listed the companies that have invested in clean energy in Andhra Pradesh in the last eight months:

- Tata Power: 7,000 MW | Rs 49,000 crore

- NTPC Green Hydrogen Project: Rs 1.86 lakh crore

- Vedanta-Serentica: 10,000 MW | Rs 50,000 crore

- SAEL Industries: 1,200 MW | Rs 6,000 crore

- Brookfield: 8,000 MW | Rs 50,000 crore

“These aren’t just numbers. They are endorsements. They reflect the growing confidence global players have in our State’s policy environment, infrastructure and future potential,” Lokesh said.

The ReNew Project in numbers

The Anantapur project will be built in two phases. In Phase 1, ReNew will invest Rs 7,000 crore to install:

- 587 MW of solar power

- 250 MW of wind power

- 415 MW of battery storage capacity

In total, the complex will include:

- 1,800 MW of solar

- 1 GW of wind

- 2 GW of battery storage

- Including all phases, ReNew will invest Rs 22,000 crore.

This Integrated Energy Complex will not only supply clean power but also generate large-scale employment and significantly strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s economy.

“We are not just pouring concrete—we are building a vision. A vision for a ‘Cleaner, Greener, Greater Andhra Pradesh.’ I call upon my cabinet colleagues, local MLAs, MPs, NREDCAP, and all relevant district authorities to extend full support for the timely execution of this project. Every step we take today will help establish Andhra Pradesh as India’s renewable energy hub. Let’s move forward together, leaving behind a legacy of clean energy—not pollution—for the next generation,” said Lokesh.
