New idols of Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana, Goddess Seetha installed at Ramateertham

Vizianagaram: Amid Vedic hymns, idols of Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana, and Goddess Seetha were installed at Ramateertham in Vizianagaram district on Thursday.

The idol of Lord Rama at Sri Kodandarama temple atop Bodikonda was disfigured last month. The incident drew the attention of the entire nation with Opposition demanding severe action against the culprits.

The government has asked Tirumala Trupathi Devasthanam to make idols. The government also sanctioned Rs.3 crores for the development of the temple.

The idols of Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana, and Goddess Seetha were brought to Ramateertham on January 25 and pujas were performed for three days. On Thursday, the idols were installed in Baalaalayam (temporary temple) and priests performed all rituals and pujas.

Joint commissioner of endowment D Bhramaramba said that the poojas would continue in Baalalayam till the completion of construction and renovation of the temple atop Bodikonda Hill.

Professor A Srinivasacharyulu of Venkateswara Vedic University, executive officer of Ramateertha temple Ch Ranga Rao, and others participated in the programme. A large number of devotees were also present and performed pujas.
