National Highway Authority of India, Rajpath Infracon set 4 Guinness World Records on Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada EC
New Delhi: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set four Guinness World Records during the construction of the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada (BKV) Economic Corridor (EC) on National Highway-544G.
The record-breaking achievement was accomplished within a span of just one week in Andhra Pradesh, according to an official statement issued on Sunday.
Two global records achieved in 24 hours
On January 6, NHAI successfully set two world records for continuous bituminous concrete paving near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
The first record was for the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete, covering 28.89 lane kilometres, equivalent to a 3-lane-wide, 9.63-km stretch, in just 24 hours.
The second record was for the highest quantity of bituminous concrete laid continuously, amounting to 10,655 metric tonnes in the same time frame. These feats were achieved for the first time globally under a six-lane national highway project.
Two more records set on January 11
Building on this momentum, NHAI went on to create two additional Guinness World Records on January 11.
These include the continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete and continuous paving of 156 lane kilometres, a 3-lane-wide, 52-km-long stretch.
This performance surpassed the previous world record of 84.4 lane kilometres laid on a two-lane highway. The works were executed across Package-2 and Package-3 of the BKV Economic Corridor.
Advanced technology and precision execution
The record-setting operation was carried out in collaboration with concessionaire Rajpath Infracon Private Limited. State-of-the-art construction equipment was deployed, including 70 tippers, five hot-mix plants, a paver, and 17 rollers.
Quality assurance and monitoring were conducted with support from premier institutions such as IIT Bombay, along with original equipment manufacturers, ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key features of the BKV Economic Corridor
The 343-km-long, access-controlled, six-lane Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor is designed for safe, high-speed, and seamless travel.
Major features include:
17 interchanges
10 wayside amenities
A 5.3-km-long tunnel
Nearly 21 km passes through forest areas
Major boost to Connectivity and Economy
Once completed, the corridor will reduce travel distance by 100 km, bringing it down from 635 km to 535 km, and cut travel time by nearly four hours, from around 12 hours to about eight hours.
The project is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity by linking Bengaluru with Vijayawada, strengthening access between the Rayalaseema region and the coastal and northern regions of Andhra Pradesh, and improving connectivity to the Koparthy Industrial Node.
With these four Guinness World Records, NHAI has not only set new global benchmarks in highway construction but also underlined India’s growing capability to execute large-scale infrastructure projects with speed, precision, and quality, the officials said.
