By Newsmeter Network Published on 29 Aug 2023 9:48 AM GMTChennai: A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against film director RK Selvamani by the Chennai Georgetown Court after Selvamani did not appear for multiple court hearings in the defamation suit against him. Selvamani is the husband of YSRCP minister Roja Selvamani from Andhra Pradesh. He has directed several films in Tamil. The next court hearing in the case was adjourned to September 22.
Trouble started for RK Selvamani in 2016 when he and former Congress MLA Arul Anbarasu gave an interview to a TV channel during which Selvamani made critical comments about financier Mukund Chand Bothra.
Chand Bothra filed a defamation case against Selvamani for his comments in the interview, claiming that his reputation was damaged. Although Chand Bothra passed away, his son Gagan Bothra continued the case.
RK Selvamani was supposed to appear for trial hearings but neither he nor his lawyers appeared before the judge to present the case.
