Omicron threat: Traveler from UAE tests positive in AP; tally reaches 17

Andhra Pradesh: A 52-year- old woman has tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID 19 in the Prakasam district.
On December 21, the woman landed in Bangalore from UAE. Later she traveled to Prakasam district.
She tested positive for Covid-19 on December 24. Her sample was sent to CCMB, Hyderabad for Genome Sequencing. On December 30, her Omicron test came positive. With this, Omicron positive cases have reached 17 in the state.
Officials traced her 14 contacts and all of them tested negative on RT-PCR.
Officials said the woman is under quarantine and closely being observed by the health department.
Officials have appealed to the public to follow Covid appropriate behavior. People have been asked to wear masks, maintain social distancing and, wash hands frequently. Those who are not vaccinated and are yet to take a second dose, have been advised to get the jabs on due dates.
