Visakhapatnam: As part of Operation Parivartana Initiative, the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and the police have destroyed ganja crop in 72 acres in Meduru village in Vizag Agency. So far, ganja crop in 1,800 acres has been destroyed.
Ganja growing in 300 acres was destroyed voluntarily by tribals realizing its negative impact on the youth. In Meduru village, 16 acres of ganja crop was destroyed voluntarily. SEB commissioner Vineet Brijlal appreciated the initiative and rewarded the elders of the village. He also ensured support for alternative crops through ITDA.
SEB and the police along with Revenue, ITDA, and forest departments are conducting extensive raids in the state to curb ganja cultivation and smuggling.
Mr. Brijlal visited the Agency areas in the last two days to understand the concerns of tribals and assess the ground level progress. He visited Pedabayulu, G Madugula and Chintapalli mandals and oversaw the ganja crop destruction in the Agency mandals.
On Friday, Mr. Brijlal visited Meduru village under Annavaram police station limits in Chintapalle mandal. He said the main objective was to stop the cultivation and transportation of ganja and urged the villagers to shift to alternate crops and reminded the impact it is having on the youth and the legal consequences of the trade and cultivation as well.
