Orange alert: IMD forecasts thunderstorm, gusty winds, light rainfall in Andhra parts

Amaravati: Indian Meteorological Department has forecast moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph, and light rainfall at a few places over Kakinada, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, East and West Godavari districts.
Issuing an orange alert, IMD said a low-pressure area has formed over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south interior Karnataka. The well-marked low-pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and neighborhood moved west-northwestwards, weakened into a low-pressure area, and lay over north interior Tamil Nadu & adjoining south interior Karnataka on October 23.
It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across south interior Karnataka and weaken further during the next 24 hours.
Under its influence, several areas in Visakhapatnam, Bapatla, Konaseema, Ananthapur, Parvathipuram, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Nellore, Nandyal, East and West Godavari districts are likely to experience moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity.
Low-lying areas in the Nellore district have experienced heavy rains in the last 25 hours. District Collector Himanshu Shukla said that rehabilitation centers have been prepared, control rooms have been set up in the Nellore Collectorate and SP office.
CM releases funds for immediate relief :
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is in UAE tour conducted a teleconference with ministers and officials today and directed them to be more alert over incessant rains in Nellore, Prakasam, Kadapa, Tirupati and Annamaiah districts. He also discussed with collectors of rain affected districts and RTG officials.
He released Rs 2 Crore each to Nellore, Chittoor and Prakasam districts and Rs one crore each to other rain affected districts towards immediate relief measures.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to immediately deploy NDRF teams to rain affected districts and added that revenue, police, disaster management, irrigation, municipal and electricity departments should act in a coordinated manner in rescue operations.
