Vijayawada: Attributing the overwhelming victory in panchayat polls to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's good governance, the YSRCP leaders said that the party-backed candidates had won 80.51 percent of seats and confined the opposition TDP to just 16.05 percent.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, minister for Panchayat Raj Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy said that YSRCP supported candidates had swept all four phases of the polls which is an indicator of the swell in the support base of the party while opposition TDP has further slipped into ignominy.

The minister slammed TDP for spreading distorted numbers that claim they had won 41 percent of seats. He stated that Chandrababu Naidu tried to manage the system in vain, however, TDP was rejected outright from the village level and had met its nemesis and will soon fade out.

Meanwhile, at a separate press conference, minister for Water Resources, P Anil Kumar Yadav said that TDP would have confined to single-digit seats, if there were no YSRCP rebel candidates. He flayed Chandrababu Naidu on celebrating the win in only 16 percent of seats and said that Naidu will celebrate even booth level victory in 2024 polls. The minister dared Chandrababu to step down and prove his statement of winning 41 percent seats in GP polls.

He said that TDP was rejected by people in Chandrababu's native place, where only eight seats were won and the same scenario was found even in Kuppam, as they were fed up with Naidu's politics. The minister criticised Naidu for citing police atrocities as a reason for their defeat and termed polls conducted during the TDP regime as 'Ravanakashtam', while the present elections were conducted in a peaceful way, which was indeed announced by SEC Ramesh Kumar himself.

On the other hand, the winning streak of YSRCP will continue in the ensuing municipal, MPTC and ZPTC polls as well, he said.
