Panchayat Raj engineer arrested, assets worth Rs 25 crore seized in Vizianagaram


Vizianagaram: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Deputy Executive Engineer of Panchayati Raj Department and unearthed illegal assets worth Rs 25 crore.

Identified as Karri Nageswara Rao, he was posted as Deputy Executive Engineer, Panchayat Raj Department, and Saluru in Vizianagaram district.

Based on concrete intelligence, three teams of ACB led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Srikakulam, BSSR Murthy carried out raids at different locations including the residence of Rao. His relatives' houses were also raided at Saluru, Vizag, Srikakulam, and few other places in North Andhra Pradesh.

DSP Ramana Murthy said that Rao had joined the department in 1989 and he owned assets disproportionate to his known source of income. Rao along with his family was staying in Vizag city.

The seized illegal assets include cash, gold, land holdings, fixed deposits, vehicles, and others. The value shown on the documents is around Rs 2 crore. But the market value of his assets is between Rs 25 and 30 crore.

ACB officials later arrested Nageswara Rao on charges of amassing illegal assets. Officials would produce Rao before the ACB court on Wednesday. It was the first major case of disproportionate assets in North Andhra Pradesh.
