Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh minister for water resources P. Anil Kumar Yadav on Thursday said despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government was continuing works on Polavaram project with the aim to provide water by 2022 Kharif.
The minister accused the Opposition leaders of making false allegations against the government and said over 3,000 people are working on the project to complete the work on time while risking their lives. Five officials working on the project site have died due to COVID-19, he added.
He alleged that former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh were sitting inside their homes fearing the virus and conducting Zoom meetings. He said one has to appreciate the officials and workers for continuing the project works despite the COVID-19 crisis.
The minister also said that MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju had become an agent for the TDP and was conspiring to destabilize the government by joining hands with Chandrababu and Lokesh. He said that Lokesh had failed miserably and couldn't win as an MLA despite working as a minister for three departments. Mr. Yadav said it was ridiculous for Chandrababu to talk about Polavaram R&R as he had been unable to give a single house to those displaced during his rule.
He assured that all measures are being taken to rehabilitate the 17,000 displaced families. The minister said the Opposition leaders have no right to speak about the Polavaram project as they are trying to blame the government while forgetting their own mistakes. He said the Chief Minister will discuss the funding of Polavaram project during his Delhi visit.
