Rains bring some relief to AP coastal districts

Visakhapatnam: In what surely was a brief respite from the heat, several parts of Kurnool, Kadapa, Nandyal, Anantapur, Puttaparthi, Madanapalle, and Chittoor districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh saw thunderstorms on Wednesday morning.

The director of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), Dr. B.R Amedkar, issued a thunderstorm warning for Palnadu, Macharla, Rentachinthala, Gurjala, Dachepalli, Veldurthy, Durgi, Karempudi, Piduguralla, and Bollapalli in Andhra Pradesh. Farmers working in the fields were advised to take shelter in safe buildings.

Child struck dead by lightning

A child died after being struck by lightning on Wednesday morning in the Palnadu district. The incident happened in Khambampadu village under Macharla mandal.

Crop damage

The sudden rains for a few hours damaged the mirchi cotton crops in the Palnadu district. Farmers are worried about huge crop loss.

Students suffer in exam centres

Due to heavy winds and scattered rains in Prakasam, classrooms at exam centres were filled with rainwater. Students had to wait for almost an hour to start their exams. The district education officer asked those centres affected by rains to allow additional time for students.
