Rajahmundry: Fed up with loan recovery agents' harassment, couple ends life
The agents threatened to release morphed nude photos on social media if the money was returned on time

K Durgarao (32) and Ramya Lakshmi (24) from Alluri Sitaramaraju district were settled in Rajahmundry 10 years ago. While Durga Rao was a delivery boy with Zomato, Ramyalakshmi was doing a tailoring job.
SI of II Town police station KM Joshi said the couple borrowed around Rs 50,000 from 'Rupee Tiger' and 'Handy Loan' apps. Due to the non-payment of the money on time, the couple were harassed by the loan recovery agents. The agents threatened to release morphed nude photos of Ramya Lakshmi on social media if the money was returned on time.
On September 5, the couple attended a family event at Ramyalakshmi's elder sister's place. On their return, they stayed in a lodge for a day. On September 5 night, Ramya Lakshmi called her sister's family and told them that they were dying and they should take their children's responsibility. "By the time the family members rushed to the lodge, the couple ended their lives ", said the SI.
"We shifted both of them to Rajahmundry Government Hospital. Before his last breath, my brother said that they have been harassed by the loan recovery agents ", said his brother Rajesh.
A case has been registered in II Town police station.
Two children get support from govt
After the parents died, their two children Naga Sai (4) and Likhitha (2) were left homeless. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Rs 5 lakh each for supporting the children, He asked the East Godavari district collector to hand over the cheque to their guardians.
