After the Covid-19 pandemic, she wasn’t very active but still made efforts to serve the department till her last breath.

Rest in peace: Vizianagaram police pay tributes to sniffer dog Daina

Vizianagaram: Daina the smartest sniffer dog who was a specialist in identifying explosive materials and bombs hidden underground was finally laid to rest. It was a tough time for the Vizianagaram district police who said farewell to the Golden Retriever and paid their last tributes to Daina.



Daina was handled by Armed Reserve head constable Y. Prem Kumar.

The 12-year-old Daina was trained at the Intelligence Security Department, Hyderabad, and was posted in Vizianagaram district in 2012. She worked for 10 years and was active till 2000. After the Covid-19 pandemic, she wasn't very active but still made efforts to serve the department till her last breath.

"Daina actively participated in inspections and security checks undertaken by the police department when government officials and important people visited the district. She played a major role in identifying landmines and explosives in the agency areas during the general elections," said Vizianagaram district superintendent of police M. Deepika.


Gold medalist

Daina won gold medals at the Range Police Duty Meet held at Visakhapatnam and at the state-level Police Duty Meet held at Kakinada. Besides, she participated in the national-level Police Duty Meet held in Haryana in 2014 and the state-level police duty meet in Tirupati in 2020.

An attractive dog always

Daina was one of the attractive dogs in the police squad. She was the centre of attraction, performing stunts during the Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations every year.
