Rs 7.9 Cr in fake currency seized on AP-Odisha border, three arrested
Police have arrested three persons and seized fake currency with a face value of Rs 7.9 crores on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border at Sunki outpost.

Prima facie, the accused are part of an inter-state racket. They were on their way from Raipur in Chhattisgarh to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh when they were arrested.
After receiving inputs, Pottangi police intercepted the vehicle at the Sunki outpost. During the search, police recovered Rs 7.9 crore in counterfeit Indian currency of Rs 500 denomination.

Incidentally, urban local body elections are scheduled to be held in Andhra Pradesh on March 10. A case was registered against the trio under sections 489A, 489B, 489 C and120B of IPC. The trio was sent to police remand. Further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, an inter-state team of AP, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha police is likely to be formed to hunt down other gang members.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for the year 2019-2020, the Enforcement Agency has seized fake currency to the tune of 2,87,404 notes of face value `25,39,09,130 crore (showing as increase of 11.7%).
