Save Lammasingi: Cleanliness drive launched to rid tourist place of toxic plastic waste

Visakhapatnam: A massive cleanliness drive has been launched to remove the plastic and other wasters from tourist places of Lammasingi and Tajangi.

People from parts of Andhra Pradesh throng the hills of Eastern Ghats to experience cool and foggy climes. However, plastic and other waste are turning out to be the biggest eyesore.

Though the locals have been appealing to the visitors to keep the places clean, most of them ignore the advice and dump plastic and empty liquor bottles on the roads and farmlands.

Mandal Parishad Development Officer, Chintapalle, Lalam Seethayya said they have launched a drive to clean a six-kilometer stretch from Lammasingo to Tajangi. "We have decided to conduct the clean drive once or twice a week till March," he added.

On average, 2,000 to 3,000 people visit Lammasingi and Tajani on weekends. Broken liquor bottles, leftover food, plastic bags, glasses, and a few others are common sight from Lammasingi to Tajangi. The waste is also affecting the birds and animals. Management of some resorts did not follow the proper norms to dispose of the waste, the locals added.

The main aim of the drive is to create awareness among visitors to keep the places clean. "We will continue our support to the officials to keep the tag that Lammasingi is the coolest and most beautiful place in the state, V Raghunath," a resident of Lammasingi.
