Kakinada: Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) on Thursday destroyed 16,000 liters of fermented jaggery wash ready for distillation in the Mangrove forests of Thallarevu Mandal in East Godavari district.

Acting on a tip-off, SEB sleuths raided illicit liquor brewing den in Mangrove forests and destroyed the jaggery wash.

They also seized 350 liters of ID liquor and a country boat used for clandestine transportation. The raid was conducted after Superintendent of Police M Ravindranath Babu tipped off SEB additional SP Ramadevi.

Liquor smugglers, however, gave a slip to the SEB sleuths and escaped under the cover of darkness. The SEB task force was led by Inspector Ganesh. The intelligence core team and Koranga law and order police were also part of the raiding party, police said.

SP Ravindranath babu complimented the entire team for the successful operation. He gave away rewards and appreciation certificates to the team.

The SP further urged villagers to inform the police about the movement of liquor smugglers. He said ID liquor is not only illegal but also a health hazard.
